Phra Phrom of Erawan Shrine

                                         Erawan Shrine

- Famous for bringing good fortune, Phra Phrom(4 face buddha) has the power to answer prayers to all visitors.

It was originally built in 1958 during the construction of Erawan Hotel which is now Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok because the property's spirit house was not able to appease spirits disrupted by the building work. Spiritual advisers suggested building a shrine dedicated to the four face image head of Brahma and since its Investiture, Phra Phrom has become renowned for bringing good fortune.

In Hindu belief, The Lord Brahma, the creator is one of the three hottest gods. He has four faces which represent north, south, east, and west which allow him to oversee all directions to protect mortal and immortal worlds. he is known for his good disposition, cool temper and ability to answer all prayers of his faithful visitors.

The Name Erawan comes from the god Indra's 33 headed Elephant, which is normally depicted with the three heads. When Phra Phrom grant a wish, the worshipper returns their thanks by commissioning the classic dancers and musicians to perform.

In the early hours of 21th March 2006, Phra Prom was destroyed by a man who is believed to be mentally ill.

A replacement Brahma statue was recreated in close observance of religion principles, guided by Buddhist monks and Brahmin priest. Made of gilded plaster mixed with gold, bronze, and other precious metals, the new statute contains  pieces of the original and was primed in black lacquer before being cover with gold leaf.
